Special Needs Tutoring is an agency that matches students to private home-based therapists, tutors and coaches. The word “client” refers to parents of students who request for a therapist, tutor or coach for their services. “Therapist” refers to therapists who will be providing the therapy, “tutor” refers to tutors who will be providing the tutoring services and “coach” refers to coaches who will be providing the coaching services.

Requirement
- 24 years old and above
- A Singapore citizen/ Singapore permanent resident (PR)/ Valid employment pass holder
- Minimum qualifications with NIE/Diploma/Advanced Diploma/Bachelor/Masters in Special Needs Education field/Psychology
- Minimum 2 years of experience in the special needs field, e.g. private intervention centres, SPED schools, private tutoring with glowing testimonies
Therapist, Tutor, Coach Verification
All contents, such as text, photographs and certificates, are sole responsibility of the therapist, tutor and coach from which all of them originated. As such, the therapist, tutor and coach are responsible for all the contents posted, uploaded and emailed or made available via Special Needs Tutoring’s website.
It is the therapist, tutor and coach’s responsibility to ensure that all information provided and credentials uploaded are accurate and truthful. Therapist, tutors and coaches who provide fake information and credential will be subjected to the following consequences:
- To be blacklisted from Special Needs Tutoring’s database
- Contact details of the said therapist, tutor or coach to be released out to partner agencies
- To be reported to the police
Clients have the rights to verify the tutor’s credentials and request for documents as proof prior to the first class. Tutors are required to bring and present their NRIC and relevant certificates requested by the clients on the first class.
Special Needs Tutoring reserves the right to arrange an interview with therapist, tutor and coach either through a physical meet or a video call. Call to references and checks with governing bodies such as AHPC, SPS, SALTS and Singapore Association of Occupational Therapists will be made when you come onboard with us. Please do not sign up if you are uncomfortable with this clause.
Assigning and Accepting Assignments
Special Needs Tutoring cannot guarantee that therapists, tutors and coaches will be selected for the assignment even after they have applied. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted by the coordinator.
Prior to accepting an assignment, it is the therapist, tutor and coach’s responsibility to ensure that he or she is able to fully commit to the assignment according to the job description: location, subjects, level of students, rate, duration, frequency, schedules and other requirements.
Upon acceptance of the assignment, the therapist, tutor or coach is required to commit to the therapy, tuition and coaching assignment for a minimum of 4 weeks. Should the therapist, tutor or coach terminates the assignment prior to the minimum period of 4 weeks, he or she will have to pay 50% of the 1st month tuition fees to Special Needs Tutoring.
Clients will not be bound to this agreement and reserves the right to terminate the assignment at any time after the first class. However, upon the confirmation of the assignment and therapist, tutor or coach, clients are required to complete a minimum of 1 class on the fixed date and time agreed.
Conduct of Therapists, Tutors and Coaches
Special Needs Tutoring reserves the right to terminate the assignment immediately should we deem the therapist, tutor or coach’s conduct to be unsatisfactory. Repeated poor conduct would lead to suspension or termination of therapist, tutor or coach’s account. Guidelines of proper conduct include but are not limited to the following:
- Therapists, tutors and coaches should always be on time for the classes, especially on the first class. It is the therapists, tutors and coaches’ responsibility to check the exact location of client’s address and to attend the class on time. Therapist, tutor or coach is required to inform the client as early as possible should there be any unforeseen circumstances to cancel the class.
- Should there be any unforeseen circumstances to cancel the class, it is the therapist, tutor or coach’s responsibility to ensure that the client is notified at least 2 days in advance, unless due to sickness, wherein a doctor’s medical certificate (MC) should be provided.
- Therapists, tutors, and coaches are expected to maintain a professional and respectful demeanor at all times, refraining from any form of verbal or physical abuse. It is strongly recommended that they provide feedback to Special Needs Tutoring, where we will engage in discussions with clients as necessary.
- Therapists, tutors, and coaches should dress in appropriate attire that reflects the standards expected of a professional working adult.
- Therapists, tutors and coaches should provide regular feedback on student’s progress.
Payment of Commission
All assignments will be regarded as long-term assignment unless communicated to us otherwise by the client upon requesting of therapists, tutors or coaches. Long-term assignment being cut short due to any reasons whatsoever will not be considered as a short-term assignment and commission of 2 weeks’ cycle therapy, tuition or coaching fee or 50% of first month will apply.
Collection of commission will always be at the end of the 2nd week cycle of classes. For example, if the therapy, tuition or coaching is agreed to be held on 7th January (first week) and 14th January(second week) but the client postpones the therapy, tuition or coaching from 14th September to 21st January, we will collect the two weeks’ therapy, tuition or coaching fee on 22nd January.
From the third week onwards, client can pay to the therapist, tutor or coach directly, either after each class, weekly or monthly depending on the agreement between the therapist, tutor or coach and client.
Long-Term Assignments
Long-term assignments are defined as assignments that are intended to proceed beyond 3 months. For long-term assignments, commission is 2 weeks cycle therapy, tuition or coaching fee or 50% of first month.
Special Needs Tutoring will collect the first 2 weeks cycle therapy, tuition or coaching fee or 50% of the first month therapy, tuition or coaching fee from the client at the end of the 2nd week.
Short-Term Assignments
Short-term assignments are defined as assignments with duration of more than one month but less than or equal to 3 months. For short-term assignments, commission will be collected at the end of 2 weeks cycle therapy, tuition or coaching fee or 15% of the entire duration of the short-term assignment. If there is balance, the amount will be transferred into the therapist, tutor or coach’s bank account.
The client will pay the remaining 85% to the therapist, tutor or coach.
Crash Courses
Crash Courses are defined as assignments with duration of one month or less. The estimated number of classes will be decided prior to the confirmation of the assignment. Commission is 15% of the total therapy, tuition or coaching fees collected for the entire duration of the course.
Special Needs Tutoring will collect the 15% of the first month therapy, tuition or coaching fee from the client at the end of the 2nd week. If there is balance, the amount will be transferred into the therapist, tutor or coach’s bank account.
The client will pay the remaining 85% to the therapist, tutor or coach.
Changes of schedule, postponement or cancellation of class
Therapist, tutor and coach must take the effort to notify Special Needs Tutoring in any changes of schedule, postponement or cancellation of classes in the first 2 weeks cycle of classes. Special Needs Tutoring will adjust the payment collection time and details.
Therapist, tutor and coach is required to inform the client in any change of schedule 3 days before the start of class and to provide a valid reason and proof.
If there is any postponement from the client, the client is required to inform the therapist, tutor or coach at least 3 hours before the start of class. If the client has informed the therapist, tutor or coach less than 3 hours before the start of class, the therapist, tutor or coach has the right to claim for the time lost and transport cost, which will be no more than 1 class therapy, tuition or coaching fee.
Amount of commission remains the same even if there is a cancellation and postponement.
Changes to classes duration
If there are changes in duration or frequency of classes within 2 months, Special Needs Tutoring will determine the commission based on the long-term duration or frequency of classes.
For example:
Scenario 1: Client agrees to have 1 class/week for the first 4 weeks and 2 classes/week from the 5th week onwards. Our commission is charged based on the long-term assignment. We will collect the first 4 classes worth of therapy, tuition or coaching fee as commission.
Scenario 2: Client agrees to have 4 hours/week and requested to have only 2 hours for the first week. Our commission is charged based on the long-term assignment. We will collect 8 hours’ worth of therapy, tuition or coaching fee as commission.
Termination of Assignments Prior to 1st Month
Termination by Therapist, Tutor or Coach
After the confirmation of the assignment and after the client’s contact number have been given to the therapist, tutor, or coach, the therapist, tutor, or coach will be required to commit for a minimum of 4 weeks. For whatever reasons the therapist, tutor, or coach may need to terminate the assignment, he/she will be required to compensate a fee to Special Needs Tutoring which is equivalent to 2 weeks cycle therapy, tuition or coaching fee or 50% of the first month fee.
Termination by Client
If the client terminates the therapy, tuition, or coaching services before completing the 1st month, Special Needs Tutoring will collect from the client the therapy, tuition, or coaching fee for the number of the classes conducted. 50% of the therapy, tuition, or coaching fee collected will be refunded to the therapist, tutor or coach.
If it is a trial lesson agreed by both parties, Special Needs Tutoring will collect from the client the therapy, tuition, or coaching fee for the number of the classes conducted. 70% of the therapy, tuition, or coaching fee collected will be refunded to the therapist, tutor or coach.
Within the best of its ability, Special Need Tutoring will collect the payment from the client. However, in the event that the client decides to default on the payment, Special Needs Tutoring will not be liable to make any payments on the client’s behalf.
Compensation of commission
After the confirmation of the assignment and after the client’s contact number have been given to the therapist, tutor, or coach, the therapist, tutor, or coach will be required to commit for a minimum of 4 weeks.
If the therapist, tutor, or coach or client terminates the therapy, tuition or coaching services before completing the 1st month, under situations listed below, Special Needs Tutoring reserves the rights to claim a fee from therapist, tutor, or coach which is equivalent to 2 weeks cycle therapy, tuition or coaching fee or 50% of the first month therapy, tuition or coaching fee:
a.is terminated due to therapist, tutor, or coach’s attempts to vary the tuition rate, therapy, tuition or coaching time, duration of the therapy, tuition, or coaching period of the contract and other terms that has been agreed upon, notwithstanding the fact that the therapist, tutor, or coach and the parents have not executed the agreement;
a. is terminated due to therapist, tutor, or coach’s attempts to vary the tuition rate, therapy, tuition or coaching time, duration of the therapy, tuition, or coaching period of the contract and other terms that has been agreed upon, notwithstanding the fact that the therapist, tutor, or coach and the parents have not executed the agreement;
b. is terminated due to the therapist, tutor, or coach’s failure to present himself/herself for the scheduled therapy, tuition or coaching class or appointment. Special Needs Tutoring will not consider any therapist, tutor or coach’s reason;
c. refuses or neglected or failed to finalise the terms of therapy, tuition or coaching services after Special Needs Tutoring released the contact details of the Employer to the therapist, tutor or coach;
d. provide Special Needs Tutoring or our client inaccurate information, include but not limited to: personal information, qualification and experience.
h. Transferring the therapy, tuition or coaching to 3rd party without the consent of Special Needs Tutoring or allowing 3rd party representative to contact client on behalf of the therapist, tutor or coach without consent of Special Needs Tutoring.
Default of Payment by Client
Should there be a delay in therapy, tuition or coaching fees paid to the therapist, tutor or coach, Special Needs Tutoring will assist the therapist, tutor or coach in recovering the payment from the client. However, Special Needs Tutoring is not legally responsible for any payment dispute that arise between the therapist, tutor or coach and client. Special Needs Tutoring is not liable to pay any therapy, tuition or coaching fees to the therapist, tutor or coach should the client defaults on the payment.
Removal of Therapist, Tutor or Coach Profile
Special Needs Tutoring reserves the right to remove the therapist, tutor or coach’s profile or to not assign any assignment to the therapist, tutor or coach due to various reasons, including but not limited to:
- Therapist, tutor or coach who provides fake information and profile
- When the therapist, tutor or coach receives complaints from the clients
- Therapist, tutor or coach who does not abide to Special Needs Tutoring’s Terms and Conditions of Therapist, Tutors and Coaches
- When the therapist, tutor or coach is not responsible: does not show up on time, has frequent cancellations of classes, and or has an unpleasant attitude.
Age, Gender and Race Preference
Special Needs Tutoring will display information of age, gender and race preference on our assignment details. This is to display the most accurate requests from the clients. By signing up as a therapist, tutor or coach, you agree to accept that you may be receiving advertisements of assignment with specific requests. You may unsubscribe from Special Needs Tutoring if you feel uncomfortable.
Disclaimer
Special Needs Tutoring acts as a 3rd party in the process of the matching services. In no event shall Special Needs Tutoring, the director and the employees be liable for any damages or physical harm inflicted whatsoever (including, but not limited to, theft, damages to property, physical/verbal abuse, outrage of modesty, sexual harassment, etc) to either of the involved parties.
Special Needs Tutoring does not guarantee the improvement of student’s grades, the timeliness of payment from clients and the positive attitude of clients.
Special Needs Tutoring reserves the right to amend our T&C at any time without prior notice to our therapists, tutors and coaches.
